Make a few pairs of mittens

You can never have enough mittens in the house, especially when the kids are young. An old, knitted sweater makes the perfect material for mittens and if it has a bright or zany pattern, this makes it easier to locate once it has become mittens.

Cleaning cloths and rags

If the sweater is too stained, old, or uninspiring to turn into something you want to wear, simply cut it into small pieces and use it as cleaning cloths and rags for jobs around the house. From cleaning windows to polishing brass, cleaning shoes and even doing light mechanics, it’s always super handy to have a pile of old cloths and rags to hand.

Sweater Skirt

If, on the other hand, the sweater is in really good condition, you might want to consider a sweater skirt. This is actually super simple as much of the work is already done. Start by cutting around just under the arms. The lower hem of the sweater will become the lower hem of the skirt, but you’ll need to sew or knit a hem along the top.

Some of these ideas do require skills, and if you’re brand new to knitting or crochet, it might be worth starting with Crochet Kits rather than trying to make something independently. Crochet Kits are a great way to get started with crocheting before moving on to bigger projects.

These are just a few ideas. Why not get creative and see if you can come up with other ways to make use of an old sweater?
