Which men have told us to dress to impress?

Before we were awash with influencers of the Youtube, Insta and Facebook generation who was it that made us feel like we should be better dressed?  Men haven’t had to worry overly about what they wore as for the most part they were at work so a smart suit for the pub and Church was pretty much it. It was the media figures that got us thinking that perhaps we should start investing in a bit more care in our appearance. It might inspire you to get some Mens Mish Mash Clothes like those at https://www.louisboyd.co.uk/brands/mish-mash.html.  Here are a few examples.

  1. Lord Byron. Scandalous, aduterty and rather good poet and writer Byron is the first of the playboys. Rich from an inheritance he could do pretty much whatever he liked and his exploits kept the cheap newspapers or “penny dreadfuls” as they were known full of tales of his travels and experiences. Some may even have been true. He was “mad, bad and dangerous to know.
  2. Rudolph Valentino. Smouldering good looks that got the ladies excited. Valentino was the archetypal silent movie star. Men wanted to be him as he was well groomed, well dressed and not afraid to get in a boxing ring.
  3. Clark Gable and Errol Flynn. The hard living first actors of the Hollywood set. These were the guys that set the tone for the Hollywood start. Smart suits but with the ability to make anything look good these two were the trend setters that said to men get smart and get the girl.

This opened the floodgates for Mick Jagger, Steve McQueen, Jimi Hendrix, Cary Grant. We all owe them a debt of honour.
